East Anglia is one of the driest regions in the UK, which is why Essex & Suffolk Water ran a campaign called “Every Drop Counts” over the summer.
The campaign offered residents free 45 minute water and energy saving visit worth £130, which offered a wide range of free water and energy saving products for home and garden, around 30% reduction in energy bills, and checking and fixing (where possible) of leaking taps and toilets by qualified plumbers.
The campaign saw approved, qualified plumbers calling on homes, by appointment, to carry out a water efficiency survey of the property. They also fitted various water saving devices, including products such as dual flush devices for toilets and aerated shower heads free-of-charge in customers’ homes.
“Essex & Suffolk Water has found home visits and the fitting of devices to our customers’ taps, toilets and showers to be one of the most effective ways to help customers save this finite resource and our award-winning scheme continues to help customers in Witham reduce their bills,” said Tim Wagstaff, project manager for Essex & Suffolk Water
The campaign was an unmitigated success, and in excess of two thousand eight hundred water saving home visits took place in Witham and the surrounding area. It is estimated that these customers will save around 83,000 litres of water PER DAY, which translates into savings of around £24 off of their water and sewage bill.
Tim said: “We’ve been really delighted by the passion and resolve customers in Witham have shown by signing-up for a free water saving home visit.
“Every Drop Counts continues to help cut our customers’ bills and has now visited over 20,000 homes across Essex and Suffolk,” he added.
The Every Drop Counts campaign won a Water Industry Achievement Award in May 2017 for being an innovative water efficiency programme, and it will be undertaken in another part of Essex & Suffolk Water’s supply area next year, giving customers another opportunity to save water.
